Clio "Cliopatra" Masterson
General
HUMAN NAME: Clio Masterson
SALLICLE NAME: Cliopatra
AGE: 23
BIRTHDAY: October 9th
SALLICLE BREED: Egyptian Mau
STATUS: Escapee
Appearance
COAT: Clio's fur is light gray and short with random spots all over. She has striping on her forehead that looks a little bit like the letter 'M'. She also has streaks down her cheeks that look like mascara streaks. The color of her spots is very similar to her natural hair color, and the striping on her forehead resembles the bangs that she usually sports as a human. She has very long eyelashes naturally, and this is probably where the streaks under her eyes come from. In her human form, Clio's hair usually falls just past her shoulders. It is very thin and straight, much like her cat fur. She once tried dying her hair blonde, but she didn't like it very much and soon returned to her natural color of dark brown-to-black.
EYES: Clio's are are very wide and a bright green color with gold around the irises, just as they are in human form. Even though she is a cat, they definitely retain that sort of human spark that isn't uncommon in Jellicles but is peculiar in general. Her eyes have always given away her intelligence, and the same is true for her as a cat.
BUILD: As a cat, Clio's build is slim and petite. She has a similar form as a human. She's always been rather tiny, and the same is true as a cat. Even though she is a fully-grown cat, she still seems to be rather kitten-like in shape. Her hind legs seem really short, but that's only because she has some extra skin that hangs down to further her flexibility and jumping ability.
SPECIAL MARKINGS: The most notable markings are the letter 'M' shape on her forehead and the mascara streaks on her cheeks.
Personality
ADJECTIVES: Intelligent, Loyal, Gregarious
LIKES:
DISLIKES:
FEARS: Small spaces, strangers, Macavity
GOALS: Clio wants to do everything she can to be human again. She wants to graduate law school and become a famous lawyer.
SKILLS: Clio is bookish and very good at schoolwork. She's also great at making persuasive arguments, which is why she'll be a great lawyer. She also loves deciphering puzzles, which is why she finds hieroglyphics fascinating. She's athletic, too, making her at least somewhat prepared for the challenges of being a cat.
GENERAL: Clio is a very well-rounded individual. She is comfortable in her own skin and is a very playful personality. She is quite intelligent and has always loved to read and solve puzzles. Her mother is an Egyptologist at the university, and so Clio is very familiar with hieroglyphics and Egpytian mythology. She loves to try to interpret glyphs in her spare time. She is also really into fairness. She believes in justice and that the guilty should be punished for what they've done wrong. That is why she is in law school, preparing to become a prosecutor. She went through a phase as a young girl of being obsessed with being in the garage with her dad. She learned a lot about cars and how to fix them, and she has found to her surprise that some of the mechanical skills she learned there have helped her in other situations.
Clio has a big heart and is very playful around those that are her friends and family. However, she tends to get pretty shy around strangers, causing first impressions of her to be not what they could be. It takes a while for Clio to open up to people. Once she has, though, she is extremely loving and willing to go to great lengths to make those she is close to happy. Clio is a very hard worker and able to solve problems fairly easily. Her biggest flaw is often that she works herself into the ground and is over-aggressive in pursuit of her goals. She will also shut herself off from people if she gets upset by them, instead of talking to them about the issue. She also takes unnecessary risks sometimes for the sake of convenience.
Family
PARENTS: Henry and Samantha Masterson
SIBLINGS: James Masterson (brother), Aaliyah Masterson-Reeves (sister), Christian Masterson (brother)
OTHERS OF IMPORTANCE: Julian Patrick (fiance), Sophia Masterson (sister-in-law), Martin Reeves (brother-in-law), Cassandra Masterson-Reeves (niece)
RELATIONSHIPS: Clio loves her family more than anything else in the world. She grew up in a loving family, and though she sometimes argued with her brothers and sister, everything always worked out in the end. She could always count on her dad for support and her mom for advice. They've supported her journey through law school every step of the way. She loves her big brother James, because he's always got her back. Her little brother, Christian, always knows how to make her laugh. Aaliyah, her big sister, was her best friend growing up. Now Aaliyah is married and has a little girl named Cassandra, who is three. Clio adores Cassandra and showers gifts on her niece. She plans to go to Aaliyah's house if Jennyanydots will let her. She's pretty sure that Aaliyah would adopt her until she finds a way to become human again.
History
Clio Henrietta Masterson was born on October 9th to Henry and Samantha Masterson. Henry, known as Hank, was a lawyer at a firm owned by his brother. Samantha was an Egyptologist at the city's university. Clio had two older siblings, James and Aaliyah, who were seven and five years older than her, respectively. When Clio was two, her younger brother, Christian, was born. Clio got along with all her sibling, although she wasn't quite as close with James and Aaliyah as she was with Christian because of the age difference. Clio began to read at an early age, and her parents were both very concerned with satiating Clio's hunger for knowledge. She was a bit of a bookworm for her first few years, but then she slowly transitioned into more of a tomboy stage.
From the ages of about nine to thirteen, Clio refused to wear feminine clothing, wear makeup, or care about her appearance. She wanted to learn more of the things that her dad was teaching Christian, so she often tagged along to the garage whenever her father and brother went out. Clio learned how to service engines, change an alternator, fix a flat tire, and other such things to do with cars. It was quite a fascination of hers for a long time. It was just about equal to her interest in deciphering foreign alphabets. When she was thirteen, Clio finally realized the benefits of being a girl and began to embrace being a woman more. She began to care about her appearance and spent less and less time in the garage. She also began to think about what she wanted to do with the rest of her life. She enjoyed the foreign languages thing, but then her father let her watch him argue a court case, and she was fascinated. She thought, this is what I am supposed to do in life!
She started focusing on the areas of school that she needed in order to succeed in law. She took public speaking, English, Sociology, Psychology, and other college classes in high school so that she would be ready for college when she graduated. When she was sixteen, her sister got married to Martin Reeves, a friendly financial consultant. Clio was a bridesmaid and actually really enjoyed the whole affair. Her brother James was already married, but they'd been married by a judge and had a very small ceremony. She knew that someday she definitely want to get married, too. She hadn't for the longest time, but her sister's wedding changed her mind. A few years later, Aaliyah had a baby girl named Cassandra, and Clio doted on her. She thought the little thing was just so precious!
Clio graduated school with high honors and spent one year at the community college earning more credits. After that, she transferred to the same university where her mother worked and became a law student. She enjoyed it a lot and got very good grades. There were some classes that she really struggled with, but she always pulled it out. She played varsity volleyball, like she had in high school, and she moved out of her parents' house and got her own apartment. She worked with a fellow law student in one of her classes, a fellow named Julian Patrick, and they really began to like each other. After a few months, they began to date. A year later, on Clio's 23rd birthday, Julian proposed to her and she said yes. She was extremely thrilled, because she loved Julian and knew that they would be happy together. They planned to get married in April the following year.
Unfortunately, unforeseen events put a horrible wrench in the works. Clio was working late on a class project one night and was walking home in the dark. She noticed a strange, hideous cat following her. She tried not to let it bother her, but whenever she looked at the beast out of the corner of her eye, its eyes seemed to glow red. Soon the cat disappeared, and Clio continued on her way. She rounded a corner, and there the cat was again! She tried to shoo it and turned into the narrow street that connected to the road she lived on. She never made it to the other side. She thought she passed out, because she remembers the walls shooting up around her, and then everything went black.
When she woke up, she was in a cage in a dark basement, though she could not remember how she got there. Everything around her seemed so large, as if she had climbed up a beanstalk and entered a world of giants. She had a pounding headache, and it took her a while to realize that this was because her senses of smell and sight and hearing were suddenly much better than she ever remembered them being. What would cause such a thing? She looked in the cage beside her and saw to her shock a cat that seemed to be as big as she was! She screamed, but the sound that came out of her mouth sounded far more like a feline screech. Trembling, she looked down at herself and realized that she, too, was a cat. She nearly passed out again from terror.
She didn't speak to the cats around her, even though she realized that she could understand what they were saying. Instead, she just listened. It seemed that these cats had once been humans, too. One was a grocer, another a garbage man, and yet another was a kindergarten teacher. Nobody seemed to know what was going on. Then one day, the cat that Clio recognized from her last walk home entered and spoke with other cats beside him of his plan to use his prisoners to fight and conquer the Jellicles. What on earth were Jellicles? Whoever this cat was, he didn't seem to realize that Clio and the others could understand him. No one else dared to point this fact out to him. Clio began to go quite insane in her cage, and she began to try to find a way to escape. They were always guarded, except at night when the guards went off to get food. Clio examined the lock of her cage and compared it to the engine of a car. She used her newly found retractable claws to play with it until it popped open. She freed herself and made a break for it, promising the others that she would try to find a way to help them soon.
The escape was not easy, because there were cats all over who seemed to be in league with the red-eyed cat. Clio wasn't used to how to move and how long it took her to cross distances. Eventually, though, she managed to make it out. She had to outrun a couple of cats who had spotted her, but she outran them. She doesn't remember how long she ran until she broadsided a female cat lurking beside a crumbling wall. She wanted to run away, but the cat soothed her and assured Clio that she wouldn't harm her. She introduced herself as Demeter, and she asked why Clio was so frightened. Clio did her best to explain it in terms that this cat could understand, and she seemed to succeed. Demeter led her to an old junkyard where there were supposedly cats who would help her.
Clio was brought before what seemed to be a council of cats. She didn't understand how such a thing could exist among dumb animals! Nevertheless, they talked in quite sophisticated terms and had Clio recount her story again. The cats she spoke to introduced themselves as the Jellicle Council, made up of Old Deuteronomy, Munkustrap, Jennyanydots, Bombalurina, and Skimbleshanks. Clio was quite perplexed by their names. She couldn't imagine naming her cat something so silly. She was wise enough not to say anything along those lines, though. She was fortunate that the cats pitied her. They told her that the red-eyed cat was named Macavity, and that he had been causing trouble for years. Still, they didn't know how he had managed to do what he had done. They told her not to tell any other cat that she is actually human for her own safety and the safety of the tribe. Jennyanydots volunteered to take Clio into her care until something could be done. She told Clio that while in Jellicle society, her name would be Cliopatra, a name that Clio didn't like for reasons relating to childhood bullies, but she didn't complain. She was grateful to Jennyanydots for her compassion, and the Old Gumbie Cat has been trying to assimilate Clio into Jellicle Society for a while now. Clio is improving, and her ability to survive and convince others that she is a cat has progressed in leaps and bounds. She still lives in fear of Macavity, but nothing has happened to her yet. If she still had finger, she would be keeping them crossed. She misses her family and Julian terribly, but she hadn't confided in anyone about this yet. It's too soon, and Clio still isn't entirely comfortable with the idea of being open with cats.
Role Play Sample
Here, place a roleplaying sample. We prefer that this is for the character you're applying for, but you may use a sample from another board if you'd like. Please keep in mind the Role Playing Rules section of the Code of Conduct and remember that this is a literate site, meaning that we would like at least a paragraph for every post, not one or two sentences.
